Gaspard Yurkievich Ready-to-Wear “Heat Wave”, S/S 2010 Photos: Frédérique Dumoulin

The upbeat and generous summer 2010 collection is the demonstrative proof of a desire to have fun, seizing with humour an ultra-feminine wardrobe and playing with the accumulation of accessories. The forms are modern, sophisticated and particularly architectural. Certain details echo the men’s collection (sleeves with rounded shoulders, Western belt buckles, large zipped pockets) yet are here associated with elements whose extreme femininity give a wink to the past: open-work design, roses, floral prints, embroidery… The wispy dresses, long and short, are taken to extremes in silk crêpe with straps, drapes, pleats or godets. For some, the muslin is embellished with a crystal chain armour ornamented with black CRYSTALLIZED - Swarovski Elements that accentuate the shoulders and chest by playing with draping and pleating. The floral watercolour print finds itself in the loose-fitting as well as the structured pieces. In spite of its intensity (the background is at times sequined while the design is left untouched), the ensemble evokes freshness, as does the marble effect tie-dye print. Every tailored garment is constructed, structured and detailed in white. The trousers are cropped and pleated. The sensuality of the jumpsuits and playsuits is heightened by the strictness of the lines, providing them with elegance while preserving a certain nonchalance. A border in white Ottoman emphasizes the dresses’ profile and offers them a sound style blatantly contradicting a plated zipper on a base of white satin, or at the same time the Western belt buckles on the sides.
